City Information

Burning:

During the months of APRIL, MAY, JUNE, JULY, AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER incinerator fires and rubbish fires shall only be allowed on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from NOON to DARKNESS. In no event shall any fire be allowed on Friday, Saturday, Sunday or legal holidays during these months. All burning shall be supervised by a competent person at all times. There shall be no burning of garbage. No burning on any city street at any time!!

  

Branches at Scout Park:

According to the Iowa Code, Section 567-23.2, only trees and tree branches may be burned at a tree site.  Leves and grass clippings are prohibited.  Therefore, as per the warning, NO LEAVES, GRASS CLIPPINGS OR GARDEN DEBRIS WILL BE ALLOWED AT SCOUT PARK TREE BURNING SITE.

 

Permits:

A Building Permit Application must be filled out, a drawing of any proposed construction, reconstruction, or alteration presented to the City Office, and a FEE PAID before any building or construction is started.  Before you dig, call 1-800-292-8989 or www.iowaonecall.com.  Applications may be obtained for amending the zoning ordinance, zoning variances, special exception permits and temporary use permits from the City Office.  Stop in to receive a complete packet.


Garbage Pickup:

There is no change in the way the garbage pick up will be handled.  Garbage is picked up EVERY MONDAY except for holidays when it shall be picked up the following day.  Garbage must be in DIKE GARBAGE BAGS, which may be purchased at the City Office or Dike Public Library for $1.20 a bag or a package of ten (10) for $12.00.  The city hauler WILL NOT PICK UP garbage in any other type of bag.  Garbage is picked up on hard surface streets.  Please have your bags tied shut when placing them out by the street to be picked up.  DO NOT PUT ANY YARD WASTE IN WITH YOUR GARBAGE.  IF THERE IS YARD WASTE WITH YOUR GARBAGE, IT WILL BE LEFT AT THE CURB.

 

Recyclables:

Recyclables are picked up the 4th THURSDAY of each month except for holidays.  Please have all items sorted in separate clear plastic bags, such as clear plastic grocery bags.  Beninga Sanitation will be picking up the recycling.  There is also a collection site set up at the southwest corner of the City Shed for recyclables. There are containers for cardboard, plastics, mixed paper and tin cans.  Please remove all items from plastic bags.  Cardboard must be broken down.  Magazines may be placed with the newspapers.  There is no longer a seperate magazine pick up.  PLEASE DO NOT PLACE GARBAGE, FURNITURE OR APPLIANCES AT THE RECYCLING SITE.  For more information...

 

City Park and Shelter/Memorial Building:

The shelter can be rented for $10 with a $10 deposit.  We have new playground equipment and the shelter has gotten a new coat of paint.  Come and enjoy the park!

Community or family gatherings may be held in the Dike Memorial Building, complete with full kitchen.  The community center can be rented for $50 with a $50 deposit.
